My Favorite 16 Songs of 2016 So Far

Hey guys! Sorry for the few week hiatus. Hopefully now I'll be back on track. For today's post, I wanted to talk about some of the news songs I've been listening to and remind you guys that so far 2016 has been an amazing year for music. It's looking to become even greater with future album releases from people like Frank Ocean, Ed Sheeran, and Bruno Mars. For now though, the music scene has been amazing, and here are 16 of my favorites.

1. BoRdErS // Zayn

Ok, so I have already talked about Zayn's new album in a previous post, but wow I love this song. It's the perfect speed for me, while some of the songs on his record are a little too slow and sleepy for me, this song is just right. I also think that the lyrics are great on this track. Some of the other songs on Mind of Mine have really lazy bridges, and this song is not one of them. I love this track just because it's such a slow jam. The perfect combination.

2. One Dance // Drake ft. Wizkid and Kyla

3. 6 Inch // Beyoncé ft. The Weeknd

It was difficult for me to not put all of Lemonade on this list, but I figured you guys all know how much I love Beyoncé. This song is for sure one of my favorites on the record though. It's the perfect sexy, sultry track. It also has The Weeknd, which is a plus in my book. Lemonade as a whole album is a lyrical masterpiece but especially this song. At the end of the track, Beyoncé also shows off her singing chops. Just a great song all around.

4. Bad Decisions // Ariana Grande

5. Bird Set Free // Sia

This is my favorite song off of Sia's new album. It's crazy to think that this whole album is made up of songs that other artists turned down because this song is just epic. And I have no idea how Sia can sing this song. This is one of those tracks that only she can pull off, so maybe it's a good idea another artist turned it down. I love the message of this song too. It's about freedom and empowerment. This song is relatable and inspiring, and I honestly can't say enough good things about Sia. I'm kind of obsessed with her.

6. Ophelia // Lumineers

7. Hold Me Up // Conrad Sewell

This song is just fun. I discovered this tune from listening to it on the radio, and I immediately shazamed it. I fell in love pretty quickly. It's an instant jam. You automatically want to dance. If this track was more well known, I would say that it could be a perfect summer song. I think it accomplishes what Justin Timberlake's "Can't Stop the Feeling" was trying to.  It's catchy without sounding forced, and it's fun without sounding cheesy. For sure, take a listen.

8. Back When We Had Nothing // Banners

9. Wicked // Tyler Shaw

So funny story, I heard this song on the radio a few months ago. I shazamed it and totally forgot about it. Flash forward to three months later, and I heard the song again, and I shazamed it again. Everytime I hear this song I fall more and more in love with it. It's such a fun song, but it has an addictive beat that really pulls you in. If you can get through this song without trying to sing or dance along, I applaud you. At the moment, this might be one of my favorites on the list.

10. Never Be Like You // Flume ft. Kai

11. H.O.L.Y. // Florida Georgia Line

The first of two country songs on this list. I'm surprised at myself, but country has been doing good lately. I don't really like the side of country music that is about tractors and drinking beer, but this track is just sweet. It's got a little bit of a twang to it, but it's really uplifting and charming. It also shows off some vocal chops which can be surprising when it comes to country. The first time I listened to this song I didn't want to like it, but the second time I heard it, I couldn't help but sing along.

12. What Am I Becoming? // Pop Etc.

13. Are We Ready? // Two Door Cinema Club

AHH! I've been waiting for Two Door Cinema Club to come back and now they will be releasing a new album. This song is their debut track, and it is typical Two Door Cinema Club. Most of the time I kind of like when artists go out of their comfort zone and switch up their sound, but Two Door Cinema Club has such a unique and iconic sound that I'm so glad they stuck with it (and didn't pull a Mumford & Sons). This song is really fun though, and it makes me excited to hear the rest of the album.

14. Say it Again // Frances

15. From the Ground Up // Dan + Shay

Every time I listen to this song I cry. That's probably not a huge feat because I do cry at a lot of songs, but I genuinely think this is one of the most beautiful country songs I have ever heard. It's honest and lovely and so so cute. I love the softness of Dan + Shay, and their sound is perfect for this song. The lyrics in this song are another reason why this track is just such a sweet and beautiful depiction of love. Take a listen and try not to cry (I still can't).

16. Good Grief // Bastille
