Ranking the American Idol Winners From Past Seasons

Hi guys! I figured for this week's post since American Idol is entering into its final season that I would rank all the winners over the past 14 seasons. I will admit the last three years I haven't watched, so I apologize if I step on some toes. I'm basing this list off of my personal preference, but also based on the winner's commercial success and general talent. So let's get started!

14. Nick Fradiani (2015)

I'll be honest I don't know a lot about this guy. He won the most recent season and has only released two songs so far titled "Beautiful Life" and "Get You Home". They're not my favorite, but maybe he'll release a great debut album. I'll be waiting.

13. Candice Glover (2013)

Glover might be a bit of a flop. I honestly did not even know she was an American Idol winner, and apparently she has a full length album. It's alright, but nothing spectacular or unique. She has a nice voice though.
12. Taylor Hicks (2006)

Listen, this guy should not have won American Idol. I'm sorry if you disagree, but when you have Katharine McPhee and Chris Daughtry on your season, you should not beat both of those people out. Hicks has a decent voice, but I literally was not interested in him at all during that season. I still have no idea how he won.

11. Caleb Johnson (2014)

I really really like the tone of this guy's voice. He hasn't done much since winning idol. He released a full length album that didn't really garner any attention, and then has been silent since. He would be higher on my list, but I'd like to see him get a little more success first.

10. Ruben Studdard (2003)

Oh Ruben. I actually voted for Ruben Studdard over Clay Aiken back in the day, and now when I look back on that decision I have no idea why I did that. Yes, Studdard has a fantastic voice, but Aiken definitely had the more dynamic and unique voice. Anyways though, Studdard is still making music and doing him, so good for you Ruben.

9. Lee DeWyze (2010)

I loved this guy when he was on Idol. He's had a couple hits since winning the show including having one of his song on the hit show "The Walking Dead". He's just released a new album titled "Oil & Water", and from what I've listened to it's very folky and very acoustic. I might be in love.
8. David Cook (2008)

I will admit that I wanted David Archuleta to win, but I still loved David Cook. His rocky tone brought something really cool to his songs, and honestly if you can't jam to the song "Light On", then you are lying to yourself. He last released music in 2015 with his album "Digital Vein".

7. Kris Allen (2009)

I wanted to put Allen up a bit higher just because I really appreciate his music, but I will admit that his success has been a bit lacking. That could be in part to a terrible car crash in 2013 that Allen was in that almost ended his music career, but thankfully he is still making music and touring. His most recent album titled "Letting You In" just came out this year.
6. Scotty McCreery (2011)

I'm not a huge country fan, but even I can admit McCreery has done pretty amazing things in the industry. From being the youngest person to win American Idol to selling millions of albums, I think McCreery is doing pretty well. And his Josh Turner-esque voice is a perfect fit for the country genre.

5. Fantasia Barrino (2004)

Fantasia is a powerhouse, there's no better way to describe her. You know when she's singing, and you're definitely paying attention when she opens her mouth. She's already released four studio albums with a new one coming this year, and she's been on Broadway. Not bad for an unknown girl before Idol.

4. Phillip Phillips (2012)

I've actually seen this man in concert, and let me tell you this man is talented. Not only does he sound just like his studio albums, but he can play the guitar like nobody's business. He's had giant hits with songs like "Home" and "Gone, Gone, Gone" and has continued making hits. Though I would like to see a new album come from him sometime this year.
3. Jordin Sparks (2007)

Sparks has been one of the most commercially successful Idol winners in past years. The song "No Air" just by itself was such a popular song that for a good year, you could hear that song everywhere. Along with her music career, Sparks has also delved into acting and has starred in the movie "Sparkle", which was Whitney Houston's final film.

2. Kelly Clarkson (2002)

The OG Idol winner is one of the most successful if not the most successful winner to date. Clarkson has such a fantastic voice with one of the widest ranges I have ever heard, and she's still creating hit after hit after seven studio albums. She has been a staple in the music industry since her win 14 years ago.

1. Carrie Underwood (2004)

Obviously Underwood is going to be my number one because she is honestly one of my favorite singers ever. Other than my bias though, Underwood has become one of the biggest stars in country music. Every one of her five studio albums has produced massive hits, and she is a seven-time Grammy Award winner. It's a no brainer why she's my number one.
