The Grammys

Hi guys! So the Grammys are coming up on the 15th of this month, so I figured I would make a post about it. Now I used to watch award shows like crazy until I realized all the politics and money that go into deciding the winner. Now I'm not saying that the people who win awards aren't talented, but half the time the people that should win, don't. Or sometimes that people that should win aren't even nominated. So I'm going to go through the main category nominations and say who I want to win and who will probably actually win. Here we go.

1. Song of the Year

Nominated:
Blank Space - Taylor Swift

Thinking Out Loud - Ed Sheeran

Girl Crush - Little Big Town

See You Again - Wiz Khalifa ft. Charlie Puth

Alright - Kendrick Lamar

Who Should Win:
Thinking Out Loud - Ed Sheeran

Sheeran hasn't won a Grammy yet, and while this isn't a concrete reason he deserves one this year, it is a crime. Sheeran has been taking up space on the charts for a few years now, and this song is his biggest hit yet. Even though I got a little tired of hearing this track on the radio, it is a well-written and well-produced song, and it deserves recognition.

Who Will Win:
Blank Space - Taylor Swift

I'm not trying to put this song down at all. It is a great tune, but a lot of other songs really deserve the title of song of the year. The Grammys love Taylor Swift though, and I think she'll probably clean house this year.

2. Best New Artist

Nominated:
James Bay

Sam Hunt

Tori Kelly

Meghan Trainor

Courtney Barnett

Who Should Win:
James Bay

This one is a bit trickier. I don't imagine Bay will win this category, but sometimes new artist is a toss up. Bay really deserves it though. He has had a heck of a year, and his debut album is something that a seasoned professional would produce. Bay has had multiple charting singles, and he can actually perform live which is always a plus in my book. I would really like to seem him take the Grammy home.

Who Will Win:
Meghan Trainor or Tori Kelly

Again this category is a bit of a toss up, but I could see either of these ladies winning. I would prefer Kelly, but Trainor does make the more radio friendly and catchy song. As much as I actually enjoy Kelly, I don't think either of these ladies have really pushed any musical boundaries.

3. Best Pop Duo/Group Performance

Nominated:

Ship To Wreck - Florence & the Machine

Sugar - Maroon 5

Uptown Funk - Mark Ronson ft. Bruno Mars

Bad Blood - Taylor Swift ft. Kendrick Lamar

See You Again - Wiz Khalifa ft. Charlie Puth

Who Should Win:
Ship To Wreck - Florence & The Machine

First of all Florence should win just because this is one of two nominations in this category that is actually a group or duo. The fact that the Grammy's can't nominate actual groups is beyond me, but I digress. The only way I can describe this song is a religious experience. It is such a beautiful track, and I can never get tired of listening to it. It deserves the Grammy whether it gets it or not.

Who Will Win:
Bad Blood - Taylor Swift ft. Kendrick Lamar

I told you T Swift is going to clean house even though this might be the most annoying song ever (except for Out of the Woods).

4. Record of the Year

Nominated:
Really Love - D'Angelo and the Vanguard

Uptown Funk - Mark Ronson ft. Bruno Mars

Thinking Out Loud - Ed Sheeran

Blank Space - Taylor Swift

Can't Feel My Face - The Weeknd

Who Should Win:
Can't Feel My Face - The Weeknd

The Weeknd has made a fantastic album this past year. It seems like he is really changing up his sound, and the album was even on my top albums of 2015 if you can remember from a few weeks back. This song in particular was so infections. It was a song you couldn't get out of your head, but that was fine because it was a jam. It definitely deserves the Grammy.

Who Will Win:
Really Love - D'Angelo and the Vanguard

The Grammys always love giving the award to someone no one has ever heard of (I know who D'Angelo and the Vanguard is, but the general public doesn't). This might be one of the weirder choices of the night I suspect.

5. Album of the Year

Nominations:
1989 - Taylor Swift

Sound & Color - Alabama Shakes

To Pimp a Butterfly - Kendrick Lamar

Traveller - Chris Stapelton

Beauty Behind the Madness - The Weeknd

Who Should Win:
Beauty Behind the Madness - The Weeknd

As stated above, I loved this record. The Weeknd channeled so many older influences on this record. I think it went beyond the typical slow and sexy music that can usually be heard from The Weeknd. This record was something new but cohesive. I can think so some other albums that should probably win, but out of the ones nominated, this one gets my vote.

Who Will Win:
1989 - Taylor Swift

I cannot fault the decision if Swift ends up winning the Grammy in this category. 1989 was a complete 180 from the sweet girl who used to sing about Tim McGraw. Swift has really matured in her career and even though some songs annoy the crap out of me with their repetitiveness (See: Out of the Woods, Welcome to New York, Bad Blood), I do think that the majority of 1989 is quality. Also so many critics loved this record, and the Grammys do take that into account.

So all in all, I believe the Grammys this year will feature Taylor Swift taking home more awards than she probably should and maybe a curve ball or two. Let me know if you agree with my picks in the comments. Have a great week guys!
