Most Anticipated Albums of 2016
1. Zayn Malik
For a guy who just wanted to be "a normal 22-year-old" guy, he sure is taking advantage of his post-One Direction fame. While I don't think his new music is going to be quite like what we've listened to with One Direction, I do have high hopes for this new record. Malik has already teased some of his new sound during his Fader interview and has publicly said that this record has a multitude of different musical influences. It will be nice to see if Malik can pull a Timberlake and pull of the whole solo thing. I'm also looking out to see what the other guys in One Direction are going to do this year, as Liam Payne already apparently has collaborated with rapper Juciy J. Only time will tell I guess.
2. The 1975
This album has some more concrete details to it. It's lengthy title, I Like It When You Sleep, For You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware Of It, will be released on February 26th, and two singles have already been released for the new record. Both songs are a little different from the usual The 1975 sound. The band have talked about how this record has a huge 80s influence which is quite obvious when you listen to Ugh! or Love Me. It will be exciting to hear these new influences and just to hear what The 1975 will do to top their last album.
Alright this one I'm pretty excited about. There's not a lot of information out there about this album yet, but the Haim sisters did say the record was almost done. They haven't released anything since their debut album Days Are Gone, which did pretty (really) well. Haim have also said that they are trying to change up their sound on this album, and they're taking time on it. Obviously taking time on an album and making sure it's the best thing you can produce isn't the worst thing in the world, but I would like to hear this album sooner rather than later.
4. Ed Sheeran
To begin, I would just like to thank not only God but Jesus for the fact that Ed Sheeran is not making us wait another three years for a third album. Sheeran actually went off all social media and will continue to stay off until his album is ready. That is dedication that I do not have. Now again the details on this timeline are still a bit sketchy. Sheeran did say though that his album will be ready in autumn, so I expect sometime in September as that seems to be a popular month for album releases. Only time will tell, but I am very excited for this album. Sheeran seems to be a master at changing up his sound, so this next record should be fun.
5. Frank Ocean
I'm going to refrain from ranting about this album, but can I just say Ocean took his sweet time getting out this follow-up album to his debut record Channel Orange. Even Adele took to ranting about it on Jimmy Fallon. Everyone has been waiting for this record, but I do think it's going to live up to the hype. The album apparently features collaborations with Hit-Boy, Tyler the Creator, rodney Jerkins, Pharrell, and Danger Mouse. The album is titled Boys Don't Cry, but a release date has not been set yet.
Lately it seems that Gaga can do no wrong. From being on American Horror Story: Hotel to creating a jazz record with Tony Bennett, Lady Gaga sure is no stranger to going outside of the box which makes her creating a new album all the more exciting. With her great voice and very vivid imagination, I don't think it's possible for Lady Gaga to make a bad record (if the album does flop though, don't bring up this post and rub it in my face). I have high hopes for this one though. The album is currently in the works but should be out sometime this year.
So this album should be released soon because Rihanna's tour starts February 26, but a release date has yet to be set. We do know though that the record will be titled Anti, and that in November she was apparently still working on it as she canceled her Victoria Secret Fashion Show performance because of it. Hopefully Rihanna has it done by now and hopefully it will live up to the hype. Rihanna always has had the talent of pushing the boundaries just the right amount, so I think this album will accomplish just that. A little bit risqué but still with that signature Rihanna sound.
