The Best Breakup Songs

A couple of months ago, I made a post featuring songs that are great to cry to. Today's post will be something similar, but instead of crying, I'm going to feature the best break up songs. Get ready. This is going to be fun.

The Angry Breakup

Before He Cheats // Carrie Underwood

Figured I would start with the less sad breakups first. This song is the pinnacle of angry breakup songs. If you feel like breaking your significant others' car or you just want to act like you have the guts to do that, then this song is for you. It's a fantastic song to scream at the top of your lungs. Also it will slightly make you feel better, as you realize that even someone as beautiful as Carrie Underwood was cheated on.

Most Angry Lyric: "I took a Louisville slugger to both head lights. Slashed a hole in all four tires. Maybe next time he'll think before he cheats."

The Positive Outlook Breakup

Keep Your Head Up // Ben Howard

This is one of my favorite songs, so I know from experience that it is a great song to listen to when you're feeling down. The theme behind this song is one everyone can learn from. It's important to be happy with yourself instead of depending on someone else for your happiness. This is a song you listen to maybe a couple weeks after a breakup, and you realize that you're a better person because of the experience.

Most Positive Lyric: "Keep your head up. Keep your heart strong."

The In Denial Breakup

Damn Your Eyes // Alex Clare

This song is a cover originally done by Etta James, but I just absolutely adore this version. It's also the epitome of an in denial song. Clare sings that he's over this person, and then he looks in their eyes, and it's all over. Now I wouldn't recommend living your life like this, but if you're having trouble with your breakup, listen to this tune. It will atleast remind you that you're not alone in your denial.

Most In Denial Lyric: "I believe all your lies. That look in your eyes. You make it all seem true."

The Guilty Breakup

Heavy Heart // Gabrielle Aplin

This is the song for when you breakup with someone, and you feel bad about it. Now not saying that you regret the breakup. You just might feel bad about how you treated someone. This song will help you get all your angst out. Aplin has such a soothing voice, and this song is very easy to listen to. The lyrics are another story though.

Most Guilty Lyric: "We always come apart, and I treat you so cold."

The Mutual Breakup

Love is a Losing Game // Sam Smith

This is the song for that breakup where you both agree that the relationship needs to end. This song is still sad, as mutual breakups still are, but it's also a song of resignation. Smith realizes that the relationship was a "mess", and it needed to end. I could listen to Sam Smith 24/7, but he is especially insightful when it comes to relationships it seems.

Most Mutual Lyric (That doesn't make sense but pretend it does): "Oh what a mess we made, and now the final frame. Love is a losing game."

The Breakup that's About to Happen

Love Me or Leave Me // Little Mix

Alright this one is a bit different, because this is a song for a breakup that hasn't happened yet. Most people can sense when a relationship is going south though, so this is a song for that time. This is such an emotional track, and the vocals are breathtaking. Listen to this one even if you're not going through a breakup. It's worth it.

Most Upsetting Lyric: "You used to tell me that you loved me once. What happened?"

The Sad Breakup (Alternately titled the Ice Cream and Rom Com Breakup)

Poison and Wine // The Civil Wars

Between the haunting voices of The Civil Wars and the powerful lyrics, this song will have you crying in five seconds if not sooner. It's also such an honest portrayal of a breakup. You hate the person, but deep down you believe you'll always love them. This song is beautiful and genuine and perfect to listen to if you're going through a nasty breakup.

Most Sad Lyric: "Your hands can heal. Your hands can bruise."
