"We need never be ashamed of our tears" - Charles Dickens

Today's post is all about crying. I've chosen 8 songs that are heartbreaking and painful in the best possible way. Sometimes everyone needs a little cry session in their life, so here are my favorites.

*Warning*: Grab some tissues before you read further.

1. Not in That Way // Sam Smith
Smith's whole first album is all about unrequited love, but nothing sums up that topic more than this song. It's heartbreaking. I remembering watching an interview with Smith last year, and he said that his mother called him up out of the blue and was wondering why this song was so sad. That's intense. If you've ever felt slighted by love, cry your heart out to this one.

Most Heartbreaking Lyric: "I'm sorry. Believe me. I love you, but not in that way."

2. Turn Your Face // Little Mix
Little Mix are known for their powerful voices and and fun beats, but this song is simple. It showcases their voices, but the music behind it is rather bare. The lone piano gives the song a haunting vibe, and the lyrics are what really pack a punch. The simplicity and power of this song will give you chills and of course make you cry.

Most Heartbreaking Lyric: "So hard to face, that I can"t feel you anymore. Hard to face, that I can't see you anymore."

3. Youth // Daughter
This is a pretty popular song, but if you actually really listen to the lyrics this song is super depressing. There's not even really a happy section of this song. This is one of those songs that makes you nostalgic and sad. You might not know what you're being nostalgic and sad about, but you will cry. So have fun listening!

Most Heartbreaking Lyric: "And if you're in love than you are the lucky one, cause most of us are bitter over someone. Setting fire to our insides for fun, to distract our hearts from ever missing them, but I'm forever missing him."

4. Small Things // Ben Howard
Well, this song is depressing for sure. It's about a lost love and how Howard can never get them back. The music for this song really adds to the growing despair. As the song goes on, you can feel the desperation and heartache of someone trying desperately to hold onto the past. This is definitely a song every can relate to and cry to.

Most Heartbreaking Lyric: "Has the world gone mad or is it me? I can't see my love."

5. Give Me Love // Ed Sheeran
This is my ultimate cry song. In general, this is one of my all time favorite songs. Obviously, I've listened to this song a great deal, yet every time I listen to it, I get emotional. It's one of those songs that gets to everyone. Sheeran is rather good at portraying emotion through his singing, and in this song, he just pulls on your heartstrings. Some people might think this song is repetitive, but I find the repetition to be emotionally building. Getting emotional about it even now.

Most Heartbreaking Lyric: "All I want is the taste that your lips allow. Give me love."

6. Holding On and Letting Go // Ross Copperman
This song has been on my cry playlist for a bit. From the first lyric, "It anybody out there? Is anybody listening", you just know this song is going to get to you. Copperman makes emotional music. A lot of his other songs have made appearances on my cry playlist, but this song has stayed constant. The tone of the song is relaxed, yet somber. It's a beautiful contradiction when you compare it to the meaning of the song. Letting go can be relaxing but sad and hard to do.

Most Heartbreaking Lyric: "Some prayers find an answer. Some prayers never know. We're holding on and letting go."

7. Another Love // Tom Odell
This song goes out to all those angry criers. If you've kind of scoffed at all of these other songs for being too sad and mopey, this might be the song for you. This song is still sad, don't get me wrong, but it is definitely a more angry and aggressive track. What matters though is that the emotion is still there. You can feel Odell's rage and hopelessness.

Most Heartbreaking Lyric: "I wanna cry and I wanna love, but all my tears have been used up."

8. Hello // Adele
If you've been living under a rock for the past week, then I'll be the first to tell you that Adele has finally released new music, and it's so sad and fantastic. Adele's music has always been one that causes the floodgates to open, but this new song is especially emotional. It's as if she's writing this whole song saying "Hello, can you hear me? I love you. I miss you", and she never gets a response. She regrets the past, but she can never take it back. Adele is the queen of songs that make you bawl.

Most Heartbreaking Lyric: "They say that time's supposed to heal ya, but I ain't done much healing."
