Live Lounge Covers

Hey guys! Today I wanted to link you to some of my favorite covers by some of my favorite artists. If you don't know what Radio One is,  it is pretty much England's premiere radio station, and about every week they have artists come in and do a live lounge. During a live lounge artists sing their songs, but they also do covers. So here are my top ten favorite covers from Radio One's live lounge.

1. George Ezra, "I Try" (Macy Gray)

I really enjoy this one mostly because I love Ezra's unique voice. This covers is really amazing to me because he sings this song with so much confidence that you would think it's actually his song.

2. Little Mix, "Holy Grail/ Counting Stars/ Smells Like Teen Spirit" (Jay-Z/ OneRepublic/ Nirvana)

I'm not too keen on the arrangement of this cover, but this is one of the top covers for me based mostly off of their vocals.

3. Ed Sheeran, "Stay With Me" (Sam Smith)

When you combine two of my favorite artists, of course I'm going to love it. Sheeran doesn't really do anything drastically different with his cover, but I do love the raspiness he brings to the song.

4. Sam Smith, Fast Car (Tracy Chapman)

Smith has done multiple covers in the live lounge, but this one is definitely my favorite, because he just makes it his own. Confident and cool, and his voice is so smooth in this one as well.

5. Miley Cyrus, "Summertime Sadness" (Lana Del Rey)

Her antics might annoy people, but Cyrus really can sing. Her tone is so perfect for this song, and I think it really fits her voice. If only she made music like this all the time...

6. Bastille, "We Can't Stop" (Miley Cyrus)

Another Miley reference, but this time it's Bastille who's being amazing. This cover is so fun and different. It's really out of the box, and I love the Billy Ray Cyrus mentions.

7. Hozier, "Problem" (Ariana Grande)

Hozier has been on fire lately, and this cover definitely helps this progress. Him and George Ezra are both people that could probably sing anything to me, and I would love it. Their voices are just magical.

8. Taylor Swift, "Riptide" (Vance Joy)

Now I will admit, I am a critic of Swift's voice. Half the time I listen to her she's flat, and I always think that if you're that rich, you can hire a vocal coach, but I digress. When you take away the theatrics of a usual "Taylor Swift" performance, you find that her voice is soft and pretty. It's a nice, sweet cover.

9. Tom Odell, "Roar" (Katy Perry)

I don't know if I have ever mentioned Tom Odell on this blog, but he's someone you definitely need to check out. What an amazing, unique talent. He makes this song sound completely different, but in a good way.

10. Kodaline "Latch" (Disclosure)

I remember first hearing this cover, and absolutely freaking out. I love the original version of this song, but any song that is slowed down is gonna catch my attention. Kodaline make this version their own, and I cannot stop listening to this cover even today.

11. Bonus cover because any post without Ben Howard is a post wasted (jk)
Ben Howard "Video Games" (Lana Del Rey)

This one is a bit older, if you couldn't tell from the decor, but it's a classic. I actually prefer this cover to the original song (sorry Lana Del Rey lovers), but it just sounds so good with Howard's raspy, strong voice. Love love love this cover.

And there you go. Check out some of these videos if you have the chance. Oh, and I don't own any of these videos, they're all from Radio One's youtube channel. So check that out if you want to see even more covers.
